Peter SerwikAge: 6 Peter Serwik might be just six years old, but he’s already been interviewed by newspapers and participated in various fundraising activities. He talks openly about his epilepsy with classmates and teachers, because, like his family, he knows that the only way to dispel myths and misperceptions is by spreading the truth and being open about his condition, which he’s had since he was eight months old. Peter’s parents just hope he can go on to have a normal life with college, marriage, parenting and whatever else he aspires to, whether by growing out of his epilepsy or getting complete control of his seizures. “I wish people would just treat me like other kids,” Peter said, “and that they’d know what’s happening when I’m having a seizure.” |
