Melissa Adams is an engaging and articulate young woman who knows well the affects epilepsy can have on a family: her two brothers have epilepsy as well. She’s had a variety of different types of seizures, and is on several different antiepileptic drugs plus she was recently implanted with the vagus nerve stimulator.

She’s also a normal teenage girl who enjoys talking with friends and hanging out. She just wishes other people would learn more about epilepsy—and treat her like they do other kids.

“Kids with epilepsy can do what other kids can do,” Melissa said. “They just have to be more careful about it. People need to know about seizures and the different types there are so they’ll know when someone is having one.”
