Report on Public Support

Through the generosity of its donors, the Epilepsy Foundation was able to continue to provide important services, programs and information to people with epilepsy and their family members in 2005.  

In addition, new discoveries were made in the search to find a cure for epilepsy. Funding epilepsy research is an important part of the Foundation's mission.

In 2004, Warren Lammert, co-founder of the Epilepsy Therapy Development Project, and member of the Epilepsy Foundation’s Board of Directors, established a research grant called the Million Dollar Challenge. Thanks to generous gifts from our donors, the challenge was met in 2005 and Lammert decided to offer another challenge to Foundation donors -- a second $1 million matching grant. 

The annual Distinguished Achievement Awards Gala was another successful means of raising funds for the work of the Foundation in 2005. The event honored Cyberonics, Inc., and its Chairman and CEO, Robert P. “Skip” Cummins. Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, star of stage and screen, served as the mistress of ceremonies. Two new successful features, added to the gala in 2005, were the Live and Dutch Auctions.

Keepers of the Flame

The Epilepsy Foundation’s symbol is a flame –- a flame of hope kept alive by a dedicated group of people. The Foundation’s flame stands for the light of understanding that will create a more accepting society, the light of learning that will lead us to a cure. But no flame can burn bright without fuel, without devoted individuals who have made a commitment to its continued strength, people who are truly “Keepers of the Flame.” The Foundation’s Keepers of the Flame are making a difference for people with epilepsy, their families, friends and co-workers.
